If you need to drive through downtown, give yourself extra time, officials said. Public transportation is also an option, and both Metro bus and train lines and Metrolink train lines are offering increased service. Drivers who commute from the Inland Empire to downtown Los Angeles are encouraged to take Metrolink trains to Union Station before transferring to the A, B and D Metro lines.  Photos: Massive fire torches 10 Freeway in downtown L.A. By Deidre McPhillips | CNNWomen in the United States can expect to live nearly six years longer than men, as disparities in deaths from Covid-19 and drug overdoses drive the life expectancy gap to the widest it’s been in decades.Overall, life expectancy in the US fell more than two and a half years since the start of the pandemic — down to 76.1 years in 2021, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Life expectancies for both men and women were affected, but not equally. The lifespan for women has been consistently longer than men, with the lowest difference of 4.8 years in 2010. But the gap grew by 0.2 years in the decade that followed and by 0.7 years in the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, life expectancy for women was 79.3 years, compared with 73.5 years for men — a gap of 5.8 years, the largest difference since 1996.Differences in cardiovascular and lung cancer death rates. largely related to patterns in smoking behavior, have b...

Pac-12 power ratings: Washington and Oregon can clinch this weekend, although the Ducks need help … from Utah

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 08:30:05 GMT

With two weeks remaining and a slew of impact matchups on the schedule, there are dozens of scenarios in play for berths in the Pac-12 championship game, including a four-team tie.(A five-way deadlock also is possible, but we can’t contemplate that outcome without heads exploding.)Let’s keep things as simple as possible until Saturday night and offer three points:— Washington and Oregon are the only teams that control their own destiny. The Huskies would clinch a berth in Las Vegas this week with a victory at Oregon State or with a loss to the Beavers and losses by both Arizona and Oregon.— Oregon clinches a spot in the title game with a victory at Arizona State and an Arizona loss to Utah.— And keep in mind that two matchups not on the schedule, USC-Oregon State and Arizona-Oregon, could complicate matters because of the Pac-12 tiebreaker process, which uses head-to-head outcomes only if all the tied teams have played each other. To the power ratings ...

U,” and despite the genre being around for decades, the talented team at Nintendo continues to find ways to surprise and delight players.TWIST TO A FAMILIAR TALEThe latest project follows familiar beats. 49ers snap out of losing spell after Trent Williams returns. That’s no coincidence.

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 08:30:05 GMT

The 49ers were happy to see Trent Williams back on the field and a reasonable facsimile of his usual dominating self. The same cannot be said for at least one Jacksonville defensive back, who reacted to the sight of No. 71 bearing down on him Sunday as one would a runaway freight train.Williams, who often describes opponents as well as teammates by their uniform numbers, put it this way after a 34-3 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars: “It’s kind of weird, because (No.) 31, turned around and ran. I ain’t never seen that.”That player, Darious Williams, highlighted what it meant for the 49ers to have Williams back after missing the last two games with a right ankle sprain. He was injured on Oct. 15 in a 19-17 loss to Cleveland but missed only two snaps before returning to battle Cleveland’s Myles Garrett, a front-runner for this season’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year. But it goes back further than that, with Williams at 35 fighting a running bat...
