LAS VEGAS (AP) — The CEO of the Las Vegas Grand Prix was thrilled with Formula One’s first race on the famed Strip, but acknowledged Sunday there were missteps in the $500 million showcase event of the season. Renee Wilm told The Associated Press first-time organizers F1 and owner Liberty Media worked tirelessly on a tight timeline of less than two years to prepare for Saturday night’s race. The weeklong event drew 315,000 spectators over four nights and brought in an estimated $1.2 billion in economic impact. It was an enormous project that insiders believe caused Liberty to spend far more than the $500 million it was expected to cost to bring F1 back to Las Vegas for the first time since 1982. “I think we could have done a much better job communicating, particularly with...

THORNTON, Colo (KDVR) -- A 7-year-old in Thornton is working to make sure those in need have a Thanksgiving meal for the holiday.  Olive Diaz tells FOX31 she is raising money to buy turkeys for the homeless.   Do you need to cook a turkey longer in Colorado? Last year, she said they filled a whole truck with turkeys to donate to homeless shelters in the Denver area.  Growing up near the city and seeing the need, Diaz said she wants to make sure no one is left out this holiday season.  "When I walk, sometimes I see people walking around with no food and I feel really sad, so that’s why I am trying to help them," Diaz said. This year, Diaz said she will be donating the turkeys to Catholic Charities of Denver, an organization that offers shelter, affordable housing and other services to those in crisis.  A GoFundMe has been set up to help Diaz reach her goal.

Q&A: How to create a sustainable lithium supply chain for a carbon neutral world?

Chile’s Atacama Desert hides a precious secret—salt flats packed with lithium, a key component in the batteries that power electric vehicles and other gamechanging green technologies. Striving to meet this demand, mining companies are converging on the “lithium triangle” spanning Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. Deposits are abundant, but extracting them sustainably remains a challenge. The possible impact of lithium production on the local environment and neighboring communities are relevant concerns that must be taken into consideration.SQM, the world’s largest lithium producer by volume with more than 25 years of experience in lithium production in Chile’s Salar de Atacama region, has continuously improved production processes, adapted technologies and strengthened its cooperation with local communities in order to respond to those concerns. As production scales, to support the planet’s transition to a low carbon mobility, pushing toward the highest standards of min...
